Local professional bowler Tammy Boomershine
recently lead her team in setting the all-time record team series in the 2006
United States Bowling Congress Women's Championship Tournament and winning the
Classic Division team event. The tournament was held at the
National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada. Boomershine led the
"Together Once Again" team with a 707 series, followed by
Carolyn Dorin-Ballard (686), Andrea Fleming (676), Lynda Barnes (642) and
Cathy Dorin-Lizzi (639). The 3,350 team series total eclipsed the
previous record of 3,327 set in 2002. Boomershine averaged 231 for the
tournament and also finished 4th in All-Events and 9th in Singles.
Boomershine and her teammates became friends
about 18 years ago and met while bowling in college competition. She
described the experience as "totally unbelievable" to be reunited
with her good friends and also to set the team record and win what she
considers the most difficult of tournaments.
Boomershine resides in Ogden and is married to Hank
Boomershine, president of the Roto Grip bowling company of Brigham City.
* Also Noteworthy: Local bowler Marcia Kloempken
of Pleasant View and her team "Team Storm" also finished 2nd in the
USBC Women's Championship tournament Classic division team event with a 3,252
series.
